Got your attention!  Here’s an interesting memo I obtained over at the Atlantic.

This memo, which hasn’t been validated, but is being reported on by Fox News, purports to provide a “Target List” of candidates for the Tea Party to presumably unseat in 2010.  Listing them under the heading of “Enemy of Liberty” or “Potential Enemy of Liberty,” one quickly, with even the most cursory attempt at fairness, concludes that this is not a Tea Party Target List, but instead a republican target list of democrats under the guise of the Tea Party.  How do I conclude this?  Well, assuming the list is accurate, and I see no reason not to, there are 45 names on the list.  Of those 45 names, 42 are democrats (really it’s 44 because 2 of the names are primary challenges).  So, am I to conclude from this that there are no republicans who might be enemies of freedom?

I believe in fair play.  So, I compiled my own list that the real Tea Party might want to take a look at as well.  And please, don’t accuse me of being a democrat plant just trying to counter the republican Freedom Works…I used to work for two republican Members of Congress (though I’m now registered unaffiliated).

So, why did I highlight Medicare Part D.  Well, according to most analysts, this legislation will far exceed the costs spouted about when this new giveaway of your tax dollars was voted upon in 2003.  And yes, this along with every other entitlement Congress has foisted upon us in its never-ending thirst for power will be paid for by our children.  In this regard, here’s a great quote from an article Bruce Bartlett wrote just last year over at Forbes:

“Just to be clear, the Medicare drug benefit was a pure giveaway with a gross cost greater than either the House or Senate health reform bills how being considered. Together the new bills would cost roughly $900 billion over the next 10 years, while Medicare Part D will cost $1 trillion.”

Befitting the title, each of these Members of Congress have been labeled “Enemies of our Children’s Future” and thus should be on any Tea Party target list.

So, I would caution any group such as Freedom Works from suggesting they might have a “target list” for the Tea Party.  If they had called it a Freedom Works “Target List” this would never have become an issue.  Suggesting we Tea Partiers support this…well, makes us all either hypocrites or worse, makes us wonder if you might think we’re all novices at this.  Hmmm, I wonder which it is?  Perhaps both?

We’ll, I hate to take the glow off all those who lifted their hands towards heaven at the election of Scott Brown, but the truth is, his election was typical of what I’d expect in pragmatic two-party politics.  The democrats win and now it’s the republicans turn to win all the while the debt clock keeps ticking…$105 TRILLION…$106 TRILLION…$107 TRILLION.  So, is Scott Brown the savior of the Republic?

Let’s begin with a little clip from the now rising star the day after his election:

Did you hear that; “I…I think…I think that, first off all, just so we’re past campaign mode, I think it’s important for everyone to get some form of healthcare, so to offer a basic plan for everybody is important.” 

How exactly is that different from what the Olympia Snowe’s of the R’s and Harry Reid’s of the D’s are saying?  And more importantly, where exactly does Senator-elect Scott Brown find authority in the U.S. Constitution to even vote on making sure “everyone” has some form of basic health care?

Brown really pulled a fast one on the Tea Party and glomed onto it, yet is he really one of us?  Or, is the TEA party really just a wing of the republican party?  If his election is any indication, the Tea Party had better do some very quick reflection on this or very suddenly find itself co-opted (if not already) by the two-party system.

I will state this; as a Tea Party organizer in Maryland, invited on Fox News 3 times as a representative, interviewed by CNN Anderson Cooper and a very recent radio talk show host, I didn’t sign up for this.  For every Tea Party member reading this who supported Brown, please take a look at why you supported Brown with your money and emotion…was he really the kind of guy that will go to Washington DC and vote to restore the Constitution to its rightful place as the authority in our country?  If his first press conference is any indication, I suspect we’ll see buyers remorse very soon.  In fact, as reported by Dick Morris at Newsmax.com, the democrats are quite possibly going to find a way around him anyway.  I suspect the republicans would do the exact same thing if it was a polic they we’re hellbent on forcing upon us.  Remember this gem, the new entitlement program we’re forcing our children and grandchildren to pay for, Medicare Part D which was passed under a republican administration and supported by many republicans like Jim Gerlach from Pennsylvania?

So, Tea Partier’s, remember the passion you felt as you confronted your local representatives at town hall meetings in August and September.  Remember how empowered you felt as you read your Constitution and Madison and the other Founders felt so alive to you.  Remember when you read the Declaration of Independence and realized that we’re facing tyranny again, this time in the form of our own federal government.  Finally, remember the clarity you felt about the principles of liberty and freedom so eloquently penned in 1776 with these words that still bring great emotion to me even as I type them;

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.”

Fellow Tea Partier’s, don’t settle for a win for the sake of a win…I beg you.  We cannot morally pass to our future generations that which we have created today.  We cannot act on pragmatism, we must act and stand on principle.  And while I worked on Capitol Hill during the Reagan administration, I can no longer accept his; “somebody who agrees with you 80% of the time is an 80% friend not a 20% enemy.”   While this sounds so enlightened in theory, in practice, the very 20% can lead to hundreds of billions of dollars of extra-constitutional activities and spending.  

Thus, if the Tea Party is to evolve into a true political force that will draw from many different political ideologies and effect the change necessary for our children’s future, it must stand on principle and not pragmatism.  For far too long, compromise (mostly the Constitution being compromised) has been the supposed highest value a politician can pretend to embrace.  And this very lauded term has now led us to the brink of utter econimic disaster.  I suggest it’s time for principle to reign; allow me to proffer a few:

• The federal government MUST be forced back into Article 1. Section 8, as originally written, of the U.S. Constitution via the 10th Amendment.
• The States MUST assert their Constitutional prerogativesand nullify legislation that is not in keeping with the 10th Amendment.
• The citizenry, acting through their state representatives MUST take whatever lawful action necessary to compel their representatives to force the federal government to obey the Constitution via the 10th Amendment.
• The citizenry MUST communicate to their state representative’s their willingness to suffer the pain of withdrawing from federal bribes using taxpayer funds from other states to persuade compliance with federal mandates.

 

Keeping our eye on the ball is critical at this juncture of our movement.  We must not let the goal of the Tea Party become “taking over Washington DC” or putting republicans back in power.  We must stay focused on the FACT that every large centralized government throughout history (which is exactly what we have right now in Washington, DC) has always ended in some form of tyranny where people lose their liberties and in worst case scenarios, their very lives.  We MUST understand that our battle is not to make sure a certain party obtains power, rather, we must properly identify and stay focused on the real enemy…the large, bloated, all-powerful centralized government seated in Washington, DC.  In 1776, we threw off tyranny from England.  In 2010, we must throw off tyranny located in Washington DC using the very tools the Founders left us…the 10th Amendment.

Finally, resist party politics.  Only support candidates that will commit publicly to force the federal government back into the box of Article 1. Section 8 of the Constitution.  Above all, don’t support candidates that one day after their election stammer out of the gate with; “I…I think…I think that, first off all, just so we’re past campaign mode, I think it’s important for everyone to get some form of healthcare, so to offer a basic plan for everybody is important.”  

My conclusion…Scott Brown is not the next political savior who will make all things right…rather, it’s up to us, working within our states to win this battle.

Health Care, Misc, Must Read, Political Parties, TEA Party

 

First off, we wouldn’t be in the mess of tax-withholding and all the filing complexities if it wasn’t for the Current Tax Payment Act of 1943.  This little gem has successfully hidden the real tax burden from the average American by getting us to look at our paychecks as “gross and net.” income.  Gross being that which we’ve earned and net equals what we get to keep after the federal, state and local governments legally plunder what it wants via payroll deduction.

Ok,  the point of this article.  I’ve begun hearing over and over again how necessary it is to buy TurboTax or some other software to make sure you get the biggest refund you deserve.  WHAT!  Biggest refund you deserve!?  You gotta be kidding me.

Frog In The Kettle to all readers…when you get a “refund” from the federal or state government, that means you paid in more to them than you should have; essentially, you’ve given the legal plunderers an INTEREST FREE LOAN!!  Is this REALLY what you want to do?

Let’s say you get a refund of $1,000 from the federal government.  Instead of earning $50.00 in interest had you invested that same $1,000 at 5%, no, you gave it to the federal government to use as they see fit with no interest paid by them.  Or, even if you decided not to invest it, it was still in your pocket to do with as you want.

Folks, in 2010, please do a better job tax planning…don’t give our legal plunderers FREE money…if they need more, they’ll borrow, legally plunder, or print more.  You’ve worked hard for your property…keep every penny you can.

Misc, Real Change, The Economy

 

Adam Smith coined the “Invisible Hand” metaphor over 200 years ago and how applicable it is during these trying times.  The “Hand” is at work and there’s nothing we can do to stop it; a reckoning is coming, one that even the vaunted federal government cannot stop, though it will try.

 

The Mother Of All Bubbles (MOAB) is upon us and ignoring or tinkering with it will only prolong, not solve this mess.

 

With over 12 TRILLION in current debt, another 7.5 TRILLION coming in 2009-2010 from bailout after bailout and 60 TRILLION in unfunded mandate obligations (Social Security and Medicare), the die is cast.  Now we just wait and see how this drama unfolds and how big a mess we’ll be in.  There is no blueprint and we’re in unchartered waters.

 

We American’s are an odd bunch with the uncanny ability to bury our heads in the sand and rely on some sort of cognitive dissonance to navigate difficult times.  On the one hand, we see the problems in the country and complain.  Oddly, at the same time, we act as though the problems aren’t real and go our merry way, spending and charging.  Rather than deal with the likelihood of a decreased standard of living, severe joblessness, and staggering financial loss, 63 million of us bought into “change” rhetoric.  Sadly, these naïve ones believe that the federal government will ride in on a horse and save the day…how sad.

 

Here’s the cold hard truth, the MOAB is unstoppable and its name is insidious – DEBT.  We’re a country that’s full of it.

 

Facts:

 

1.      Current National Debt – In excess of $12,000,000,000,000.00 (Yes, that’s 14 digits)

2.      Projected bailouts – In excess of $7,500,000,000,000.00

3.      Unfunded debt obligations (Social Security & Medicare) - $60,000,000,000,000.00

4.      Consumer Debt – 97% of GDP or roughly $14,000,000,000,000.00

What does all this mean?  In layman’s terms, GDP essentially equals how much is produced by our country each year.  In 2009, it will generally equal $14 TRILLION.  So, if the entire country didn’t spend a single penny all year (that means no mortgage payments, no food, electric, car payments, etc), we would still fall $79 TRILLION short of the debt we owe.  Of course, we cannot use all of our GDP to retire debt and really, we’re $93.5 TRILLION in debt.

 

Thus, the Mother Of All Bubbles is upon us and we cannot hide.  It’s a simple reality that we face and we’d better come to terms with it.  For starters, we’d better realize the government isn’t the solution.

The Economy

As we observe the ignoble acts of the Senate this weekend and our frustrations grow as we see an ever expanding central government devour more liberty and property, it’s time to state the obvious…we must force Washington DC to decentralize.  The 9^th and 10^th Amendments will be our tool.

 

Implicit in the Declaration and the Constitution is an underlying principle that the final arbiter of power would be We the People.  Make no mistake about it, we’re talking about raw unadulterated power and right now, the possessor of this power lays not with the people, but with a demagogic, domineering, and malignant centralized government; one that has no justification for its actions in the “Original Meaning” of the Founders.  The Founders, perhaps with the exception of Hamilton, feared exactly what we have today in Washington DC. 

 

The House and Senate, believing themselves to be the repository of all knowledge, are poised to foist upon the average citizen, by the force of law, a mandate to use their property (money) in a manner other than their choosing.  This arrogant travesty should shake us all to the core and inspire action, not mere complaining.

 

When so-called healthcare reform is passed, the States, supported by We the People, MUST respond forcefully.  If we fail or go weak-kneed at this moment of liberty’s greatest need, the great American experiment will be lost forever; there will be no way to roll back the clock.

 

Therefore, the States, populated by We the People must deploy our greatest Constitutional weapons, the 9^th and 10^th Amendments.  Shortly after ratification, these “Rights” were enshrined in the Bill of Rights and they are in no less force than they were on December 15, 1791. A State of States must immediately introduce and pass not just a resolution of disagreement with the federal government, but legislation that defies the federal government.  We the People must then force the Governor or Governors of to sign it into law and transmit it to Washington DC.

 

The question really boils down to whether or not We the People of the 21^st century are really cut from the same cloth as those in the 18^th century.  Time will tell.

Over at the American Thinker this morning, I ran across an article by Kyle-Anne Shriver titled Tea Parties: Misunderstood and Vastly Underrated.  This is one of the first articles written about the burgeoning movement that generally does a good job of explaining some of its evolving themes.

The Movement is beginning to take shape as more and more average citizens get involved and begin to translate their sign waving and hand clapping into what that really want.  For what it’s worth, as a Tea Party Organizer myself, here are the general themes I see emerging from this group:

First, it’s not about a political party.  Sure, sure, the groups are undeniably largely populated by disenfranchised republicans, conservatives and libertarians…this is unarguable.  But there are democrats and moderates who are uneasy about where the country is heading and are attending these meetings as well.  With that stated, very few that I speak with, and I speak to hundreds of people, are looking to a political party to solve the problems were in.  In fact, the phrase I hear over and over and over again is this; “I’m a republican but I’m thinking of leaving the party and changing to independent.”  When I ask why, it’s clear the average citizen sees both parties as essentially one in the same and both will lead to further infringement on liberty.

Second, most in the Tea Party Movement see their fundamental liberties under assault by an ever expanding BIG GOVERNMENT.  They may not be able to quote the legislative act that encumbered a particular freedom, but something visceral, way down in their gut tells them that something is very wrong.  This translates into action for them as they fear for their children and grand-children’s future.

Third, they’re willing, unlike the average politician, to take responsibility for the mess we’re in.  While the average politician is always looking to the next election and how to capture a particular demographic, they rarely look back at how they contributed to the mess (click here if you want the pants scared off you).  On the other hand, the average citizen attending a Tea Party is perfectly willing to accept the fact that they were asleep at the wheel, didn’t pay attention, voted based on party loyalty and generally only cared if something was happening in DC that affected them directly.  Now that they’re no longer asleep (a posture by the way that politicians love the average citizen to be in), they’re beginning to study (typically Madison, Jefferson), read their pocket Constitution, and get acquainted with the Declaration of Independence.  Somehow, these charter documents feel like a safe harbor, a place where a free people were born and they long for a reappearance of Thomas Jefferson to guide them out of the mess we’re in just as he did when British tyranny existed.

Fourth, now that they’re willing to accept their responsibility for the mess we’re in, members of the Tea Party Movement are willing to get to work AND sacrifice to fix it.  As I’ve personally told the group I’m involved in, we’re at a “pick you pain” moment in history and most people in the audience noddingly approve the statement.  We all “get it” that any solution at this point will involve pain and we largely ignore the political class that tries to tell us that “everything will be ok.”  We know they’re not telling us the truth.

We’re all coming around to the idea that it’s really not Obama we’re angry with; people are beginning to see that BIG GOVERNMENT is the play-ground of BOTH parties.  Thus, you’re seeing fewer and fewer anti-Obama signs and more and more Declaration of Independence and Constitution signs at rallies…this should tell us something about the views of the Movement.  Recently, as a talk-show host on 930 WFMD, I went to the rally in DC regarding healthcare reform.  Sure there we’re many anti-Obama folks there, but the majority of the folks that I interviewed from across the country were troubled by the extra-Constitutional healthcare legislation…that’s right, EXTRA-Constitutional.  Not a person I spoke to, and I spoke to dozens and interviewed many, were there because they were republicans, rather they felt the Constitution was somehow under attack.  Admittedly, only one person could clearly articulate which provision in the Constitution they believed was being violated, but that misses the point of this movement’s evolution; these folks, just average citizens, were able to clearly identify that Congress was about to way overstep its authority with this vote and they wanted to make sure their voices were heard.

Fifth, and perhaps most importantly, the real antagonist in this drama is slowly being revealed and coming into focus…BIG GOVERNMENT.  People, hard working average citizens who carry the burden of paying for Washington are plain ole’ fed up with it and know that the only real solution is to somehow radically reduce its influence.  Most are content to look to the State’s Rights movement and the 10th Amendment for their solutions right now and are hopeful that personalities like Judge Napolitano and websites like the Tenth Amendment Center can provide direction.  But the people I spoke with aren’t content with simply writing letters or making phone calls or even just attending rally’s.  They’re willing to hold their powder dry for now, but they’re beginning to see that the solutions to America’s problems lays in their hands; not the elite political class only thinking through the myopic lens of the next election and how to get their turn at the helm of BIG GOVERNMENT (see the recurring theme in the article?). 

Finally, for now, the Tea Party Movement is organic and independent; which is a really good thing.  It has not allowed itself to be co-opted by a political party, at least at this point, and resists any attempt to promote a particular candidate.  In fact, recently, the tea partiers in Florida took the step of actually forming a new party in their state as a way to ensure the parties, especially the republican party doesn’t co-opt it.  I have no idea whether or not a majority of the tea party members in Florida support this or not.  But clearly, this demonstrates the independent nature of this movement; it want’s to be heard and not identified with the very system that has created the mess.

Will it succeed?  Will the Tea Party movement see its promised land of flourishing freedom, keeping one’s own property and hard earned income, the ability to wildly succeed or just as spectacularly fail in a venture, the freedom to chose who to give charity to rather than being forced to though BIG GOVERNMENT mandated entitlement programs?  I’m not sure.  One thing I am sure of though, I’m hearing more and more clarion calls from history in the people I talk to and it goes something like this:

Immediatly followed by:

“And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor.”

The real question is, will another Thomas Jefferson emerge and make the government “fear the people again?”

Is retaking the GOP the real goal of the Tea Party Movement?

I read an October 28, 2009 article by JB Williams over at Canada Free Press titled “Tangible Tea Party Tactics” in which Williams argues that a primary tactic should be to take over the GOP.  Williams frames these tactics as tangible and at first glance, he would seem to be correct and perhaps even plausible.  But, is that really the point of the Tea Party Movement?  Is it really a movement that seeks to simply replace the current crop of liberal democrats in the Congress with a conservative group of republicans?

 

While I laud the idea and the passion behind it, I’m afraid this will fall well short of the wholesale change that is really needed in Washington DC and by change, I mean real change.   

 

In President Clinton’s first campaign, James Carville coined a famous phrase that defined the Clinton Campaign…it’s the economy stupid!  For the Tea Party Movement, our opposition to republican or democrat candidates should be summed up in another simple phrase…it’s the big federal government and two party system stupid!  In my view, the battle between Dede Scozzafava and newcomer Doug Hoffman in NY-23 was really a proxy war between the conservative/Tea Party movement and status quo big federal government two party system.  With Scozzafava knocked out the NRCC desperately tried to associate itself with Hoffman only to kick him to the curb when he lost…now that’s the kind of principle I can rally around. 

 

The two-party system has failed miserably as sadly, both parties support the status quo…BIG GOVERNMENT and therein lies the problem. 

 

The fundamental question is whether this is what the Founders desired?

 

If we believe the Founders wanted a HUGE bloated ever-encroaching federal bureaucracy, the current two-party system fits the bill.  However, there’s one problem with this scenario, we have to assume the Founders failed to realize that one-half of the country would perpetually be angry at the other.  They must have also failed to realize that this anger would at times be expressed in rather violent terms such as the one I heard yesterday as I attended the “Republican Rally” in Washington DC.  One fella, standing about 15 feet away from me wasn’t content with the “kill the bill” chant.  No, he had to modify it to “kill the traitors” chant of his own.  Fortunately, not many people around him joined in the chant, but I wonder about his friends back home.

 

So, is the problem really that the GOP isn’t populated with enough “conservative republicans” (whatever that means) and that the republicans aren’t in control?  My experience tells me that’s not the problem.

 

Think of it this way; let your mind wander to a time where the federal government isn’t allowed, by a binding constitution, to grow to its current size.  What would life be like if the federal government was forced to reduce its spending (and thus our taxes) back to pre-New Deal days of say around 5% of GDP?  That would take the current budget from $3.8 TRILLION down to a more manageable $700 Billion.

 

Now, with only $700 Billion to spend, perhaps the job of Congressman wouldn’t be as coveted as it is now.  Perhaps the special interests wouldn’t be so tempted to gerrymander elections with less than noble intentions and the Congress would be left largely to focus on their Constitutional responsibilities listed in Article 1. Section 8. of the Constitution.

 

Hmmm, whatever would they do with their time!

 

Sadly, this can only be seen if we let our minds wander; for the reality is, the two-party system will never allow this dream to become a reality unless We the People make them.  They love their ruling seats in the Congress.  How do I know this?  I saw it first hand as a Legislative Assistant back in the 1980’s.  Lord Acton was indeed correct, power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. 

 

So, the average Congressperson has no problem whispering into the constituent’s ear, “pssst, don’t worry, I’ll take care of you” all the while reaching behind you, taking out your wallet and slipping out a few more dollars along with our liberties and we reply, “ahhh, they really care for us.”

 

Nonsense!  Until We the People conclude that the problem is the two-party system and its marriage to a HUGE bloated federal government, Congress will continue its drunken sailor spending even though I suspect most of us emphatically don’t want a $3.8 Trillion dollar government or a $105 Trillion dollar debt created by a VERY unpopular Congress.  Do we really think the republicans will reduce this…really?

 

It’s been said that a parent will fight to the death to stop a threat their children.  It’s my belief that most Tea Party Movement members feel their children are being threatened by the HUGE bloated centralized federal government.  The question is, are they really ready to fight?

 

Most recently, the symbol of an all powerful all knowing federal government has taken the form of healthcare reform.  Specifically, one party (democrats) ignores the recent pollingwhile another (republican) ignores the extra-constitutional realities of healthcare reform on Capitol Hill paying mere lip service to its unconstitutionality.  Nancy Pelosi was quoted as saying “are you serious” when asked for the specific Constitutional Authority to pass healthcare legislation.  The tenor of her response was clearly, “how dare you ask me that question; don’t you know who I am?  I’m Nancy Pelosi and I’m the Speaker of the House and the Congress can do anything it wants and there’s not a darn thing you paean’s can do to stop us.”

 

Oh Yeah!

 

So, what should the Tea Party Movement really commit to and what should we do to obtain these goals?

 

The Tea Party Movement Should:

 

First, stop focusing on the two-party system.  Simply taking over the GOP, as if that could ever really happen, is an extremely time-consuming proposition at best.  And even if the Tea Party Movement was successful, when will this “New GOP” start addressing the real problem…BIG GOVERNMENT?  We don’t have a lot of times folks, the clock is running.

 

Second, perhaps we should spend our time coalescing around a few “real change” ideas listed below and strategize on how we get the country back to the Founders original intent.  This would necessitate really hard decisions and really hard work, but aren’t our children and grandchildren worth it.  Or are we content shifting the chairs around on the Titanic with the current two-party system. 

 

Thus, I present the following list of Really Tough Decisions (RTD’S)!

 

RTD #1 – Agree that the federal government must be shrunk in accordance with the original meaning of the United States Constitution.  To do this, we must demand that some congressperson, any congressperson, introduce legislation to dismantle all entitlement, corporate welfare, and subsidy programs by 2020.  This includes, but is not limited to: Social Security, Medicare, SCHIP, Medicaid, Farm Subsidies, and the Earned Income Tax Credit.  I suspect we’re all aware that that this will be an incredibly difficult and painful task.  But, as we all know, these programs are unsustainable and will eventually engulf the entire federal budget and take more and more from the working public.  We’re in a pick your pain moment, I’d prefer to pick the pain that will give us back our liberty.

 

RTD #2 - Repeal the Tax Payment Act of 1943 and end employer withholding of taxes.  This simple act will raise the level of awareness and accountability as each taxpayer is required to pay their taxes on an annual basis via a tax return.  When people actually have to write a check to the newly formed Tax Collection Agency (see RTD #3), there will be a much greater interest in how the federal government spends our money.  Never forget, the money they spend is ours, not theirs.

 

RTD #3 - Introduce legislation to change the name of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to the Tax Collection Agency (TCA).

 

RTD #4 - Introduce a Constitutional Amendment to repeal the 16^th Amendment which gives the power of the federal government to tax property (income).

 

RTD #5 - Introduce a Constitutional Amendment to repeal the 17^th Amendment and return to the original design for the State legislatures to appoint Federal Senators, thus giving the States the intended check on Federal legislation.

 

RTD #6 - Introduce Constitutional Amendments to define the so-called General Welfare, Commerce and Necessary and Proper Clauses in Article 1. Section 8 of the U.S. Constitution in accordance with the original meaning of the words as debated during the Constitutional Convention in 1787.

 

RTD #7 - Introduce a Constitutional Amendment requiring Congress to not exceed the Enumerated Powers in Article 1 Section 8 of the U.S. Constitution.  This Amendment will prevent future Congresses from ever putting the country in jeopardy again as they have now with promises totaling $105 TRILLION dollars…a debt we can never pay.

 

RTD #8 - Introduce a Constitutional Amendment to require a balanced federal budget with the following exceptions: (a) A properly declared war by the Congress in accordance with the Constitution at which time the increased spending can only occur during the period of the war and shall end within 2 years of the cessation of military activities; (b) Incidences of national security events to which the budget increase may only be appropriated to military expenditures to protect the nation; (c) The balanced budget must be no larger than 5% of GDP.

 

RTD #9 -Introduce legislation to modify SEC. 5. (b) of the War Powers Act to read: Within sixty calendar days after a report is submitted or is required to be submitted pursuant to section 4(a)(1), whichever is earlier, the President shall terminate any use of United States Armed Forces with respect to which such report was submitted (or required to be submitted), unless the Congress (1) has declared war or has enacted a specific authorization for such use of United States Armed Forces, (2) has extended by law such sixty-day period, or (2) is physically unable to meet as a result of an armed attack upon the United States. Such sixty-day period shall be extended for not more than an additional thirty days if the President determines and certifies to the Congress in writing that unavoidable military necessity respecting the safety of United States Armed Forces requires the continued use of such armed forces in the course of bringing about a prompt removal of such forces within the additional thirty day period.

 

RTD #10- Support 10th Amendment legislation at the State level ensuring that the people of a particular state have at its disposal the greatest tool of liberty…self determination.

 

What should the Tea Party be willing to do achieve these goals?

 

1.       Only vote for politicians that will embrace these goals.

2.       Encourage and support candidates willing to restore a vision of limited government to our country.

3.       Participate in acts of civil disobedience to raise awareness of the tyrannical behavior of the federal government.

4.       Urge state legislatures to compel the federal government to stay within the Enumerated Powers of Article 1 Section 8 in compliance with the original meaning of the Founding Fathers using 10^th Amendment legislation and other Constitutional Amendment means.

5.       Educate, educate, educate on the Founders vision of a very limited federal government.

 

It’s my belief that the media and two-party system entirely miss the point of the Tea Party Movement.  As the Movement coalesces, both should be aware that average Tea Party members:

 

-          Are not content writing letters to our Congressman only to be ignored by them.

-          Are not content writing letters to the Editor only to debate the same issue over and over and over again.

-          Are not content simply meeting and complaining. 

-          Will no longer accept political double speak.

-          Will no longer allow the federal government to force us to pay for programs that are beyond the Enumerated Powers in Article 1 Section 8 of the Constitution.

-          Will not allow the irresponsible federal government to bankrupt our children’s future.

-          Will only be satisfied when the federal government is radically shrunk and its influence over the average American and American business has been severely contained in keeping with the Founding Fathers principle of limited government. 

 

In the end, I believe that if the Really Tough Decisions listed above are adopted by the Tea Party Movement, only then will liberty, true liberty, be restored.  And should we reach this point of unity it will be with great enthusiasm that the Tea Party Movement will put the the federal government notice; they must prepare for the Sovereign States and We the People to assert our Constitutional rights.  This will likely come come in the form of nullification legislation from the states against federal legislation that is not in keeping with their states priorities via the 10^th Amendment or proposed Constitutional Amendments. 

 

Failing to understand this misses the entire point of the Tea Party Movement…at everyone’s peril.

Health Care, Must Read, Real Change

 

Well, it looks like the 535 kings on Capitol Hill will try to ram health care reform down our throats soon, especially after Obama’s speech tonight.  They will capitalize on his charisma and lie to the public; the rhetoric will be over the top the next few days.  There will be a full-court by the statist media and unless we, the average citizen, push back with equal force, our liberties will be in great peril.

What liberties are at risk?

1. The natural RIGHT you have to choose who, when and where you decide to obtain health insurance.  Max Bacus is purported to have a $3,800 fine for not obtaining health insurance.  Can you believe it, the federal government fining you for not having health insurance.  So, chalk up one liberty lost…choose our way or you’re going to pay.  Where’s that in Article 1 Section 8???
2. Don’t think for a moment that this will not lead to a single payer system; this is their overall goal.  If they can control health care, they can control you.  You will soon lose your right to choose a doctor, choose the treatment you want, or choose a lifestyle of your choosing.  You will be mocked and ridiculed by the federal government for stopping at McDonald’s, not exercising, or for the beer you might want to have.  You will loose your ability to choose.
3. You will loose your right to your property, in this case, the money you earn.  You will be required to participate in a government approved program and you will be required to pay for it whether or not you want to (see Social Security and Medicare) or not.  You will not have a choice, the federal government will take it from you.
4. You will lose your ability to decide your future, the federal government will promulgate rules for you to live by and you won’t be able to change it.  YOU LOSE - THEY WIN.

 

Understand readers, we’re in a fight and it’s liberty verse the soft tyranny of an out-of-control government.  They want to restrict the liberties granted to us not by the rulers in Washington DC, but by our Creator.  They’ve declared war on the liberties that were fought for by patriots beginning in 1776…will we dishonor their sacrifice by sitting on our hands?  Will we call Washington DC what is really is, a reservoir of little kings that are usurping our rights just as King George did?

Folks, a 21st Century O.K. Corral is coming; the 1st step is the March on DC 9/12/09…you MUST be there!  You must keep up the pressure in your local communities.  Join groups, attend tea parties, organize take back America rallies…CONNECT CONNECT CONNECT!!  This is a critical juncture in out nations history, lines are being drawn, sides are being formed.

Health Care, Must Read, Real Change, Restore America

 

We’re all struggling to articulate what it is we’re fighting against.  Sure, right now it’s healthcare, tomorrow it will be Cap & Trade and on and on and on we’ll go.  But is that really what we’re fighting against?

I contend what we’re really fighting against isn’t specific policies, rather it’s the soft tyranny of an out-of-control federal government.  Congress refuses to restrain itself.  The Presidency sees no limits to it’s power to execute the law on us, the citizens. The Supreme Court will not force the other two branches to comply with the Constitution; instead, they provide the precedent necessary to expand their reach.

Well, the ultimate check and balance granted to us by the 10th Amendment and the Declaration of Independence is to force the federal government back into the box created by the Founders.  We do this through the ballot box now, but eventually, a Constitutional Convention may be necessary as I fear the government no longer fears nor respects the populace…thus, we must compel them to.

So, as you gather at your local Tea parties or assemble under the 1st Amendment in Washington DC this Saturday, make connections.  Identify others you may be able to keep in touch with.  Join local groups that share your values. Organize, organize, organize.  If we’re going to have any chance at success, it will be because we’re organized.

In a follow-up to my previous post about Why Conservatives Struggle Holding On To Power…We WORK!, the anti-free speech elitists in Washington DC and the media are trying to intimidate us into shutting up.  It won’t work.

 

Who are we that are gathering together to push back against an out-of-control federal government? 

 

NEWS FLASH, we’re average Joe’s and Josephine’s with jobs and families; that’s who.  We’re not part of some grand insurance company conspiracy or rabble brought together by the local republican party…most of us are way past party labels.  No, we’re just plain ole’ common folk who provide the revenue the federal government needs to exercise power over us.  In some sense, we’ve been played as suckers for many decades - and perhaps we’re culpable in this regard - but, we’re waking up.  We’re getting up from our Lazy Boy’s and taking to the streets and a bully like Dick Durbin is hardly enough to stop us.

 

 

Many of us have been in the military so elitist snobs like the leaders of the House and Senate don’t make us quiver in our boots; we understand there’s strength in numbers and they’re beginning to grow.  So, it will be the elected leaders in the House and Senate who will quiver as in a short 14 months, we’ll take to the ballot boxes in our districts and vote them all out.  A voter tidal wave is building and it won’t be like we’ve seen before and it won’t be about republican or democrat…it will be about the Constitution, specifically Article 1, Section 8, the Enumerated Powers section.  We will force Congress to obey it by putting those, and only those who pledge fidelity to it, into office.

 

What we’re seeing at the Town Hall meetings is many decades of pent up anger as Congress encroached more and more on the freedoms many of our forefathers died protecting.  We’ve called and mailed letters hoping they would listen, but you didn’t.  Well, now Congress has woken a sleeping and slumbering giant and we’re not looking to any leader in particular to lead us, we already have it…The United States Constitution.  Congress has ignored the limitations it has placed on it and We the People, the greatest check and balance of all will force Congress to follow it.

 

Our constant and piercing battle cry will come in the form of a simple question: Where in Article 1, Section 8 of the United States Constitution do you find the power to__________ (fill in the blank)?  The average congressperson will try to trick us with high-minded language about the General Welfare, or Commerce, or Necessary and Proper Clause, but we will not be tricked.  We know that the Founders (including Hamilton) never intended those clauses to give you unlimited power; we’ve read Federalist 45 and James Madison’s letter to Mr. Pendleton.  Then, it will be Congress who will quiver as they give account for their votes in the cleansing light of history as they face the ultimate judge this side of eternity; us, the voter.

 

So, it’s us, the common folk of America who are coming to these Town Halls and demanding a reckoning.  Congress may run, they may ridicule, they may try to bully, but they can’t hide in November 2010.
